Choosing the Right Adirondack Chairs for your Garden

Author: Julien Raynal

Chairs and furniture for the porch or outdoors are normally made of wood, are large in size and are comfortable. The primary considerations while looking for outdoor furniture should be the style of furniture as it has to withstand heavy wear and tear as well as the strains that the elements will impose on it. Wood furniture offers a great way to relax in the midst of rough surroundings and help us enjoy the natural outdoors.

Adirondack style furniture is very well known and famous as patio and outdoor furniture. Adirondack chairs, backrests, side tables are famous and they are named based on the style of furniture that is found in the rustic resorts and lodges of Adirondack Mountains in the state of New York. These have now become synonymous with outdoor furniture. Adirondack chairs are perfect for house porches, cabins or hunting lodges.

Adirondack chairs have a unique style with a spectacular curved backrest, wide armrests, slatted seats and angled supports that come together to give a rugged and reclined look. The legs of the Adirondack chairs are narrow at the bottom and wide at the top. Comfort and style are the highlights of Adirondack chairs although anyone looking at them for the first time might have doubts and expect that such a chair might be uncomfortable. Adirondack chairs can provide hours of comfort and pleasure and are also very durable. The above mentioned characteristics are common and form the basic design of all Adirondack chairs. A wide variety of chairs and furniture are now being manufactured in various sizes and materials based on these basic slatted and wide designs.

Cedar is the preferred wood for Adirondack chairs, although pine and redwood are used occasionally. Red cedar is preferred because of its lightness and as it resists rot well although white cedar is also a fine touch. The wood is normally three-quarters to one inch in thickness based on how strong the chair is. The chair is normally held together with drywall screws. The screw openings are sealed with cedar plugs using glue. Carriage bolts can be used to fix the slanted legs to the vertical legs and for the armrests.

Additional Adirondack furniture such as side tables goes very well with Adirondack chairs. These also come in the same model and design as Adirondack chairs and can blend well with the rest of the furniture. Adirondack chairs come in a lot of designs and options and are easily available in many furniture stores. Once you decide on your requirements for the chairs or the complete set of furniture, you can buy this great set of furniture that can serve you for years to come depending on your budget and taste. It is always wise to keep in mind the importance of the investment. Well built furniture will likely last for years while it is an uncertain conclusion for cheaply made furniture.

Adirondack furniture is also available at online stores these days. You can browse them, look at the different models, sizes and options available and make a decisions from the comfort of your home. Adirondack chairs are an investment for life as they are very durable and can be used for a long time. So while making your purchase decision, you can decide on investing a little bit more and buy a satisfying piece of furniture rather than go in for something that is less costly, but might not satisfy you completely.
